First Show Experience

Wow — what a weekend! We had our very first experience showing our dahlias at the 1st Sierra Nevada Dahlia Society Show, and it was such an incredible time. It was amazing to see how many people from the community came out, asked questions, and shared their own love of flowers. There’s something really special about seeing a room full of people who all care about the same thing you do — the colors, the textures, the shapes, and that little bit of magic that only dahlias seem to have.

We were honestly just excited to participate, but we ended up being blown away by how it all turned out. A few of our blooms even took home ribbons — one of our bouquets won first place, and another took third! It still feels a little surreal to see those awards next to our flowers. It was such a rewarding feeling after all the work that went into growing them.

There were so many beautiful blooms on display and so many talented growers showing their flowers. It was inspiring to see the variety, creativity, and care that everyone brought to the show. Overall, it was just a fun experience and such a joy to see how many people from the community were interested and excited about dahlias. We came home with full hearts — already excited for next year’s growing season.

Now, as the season starts to wind down, we’re shifting gears toward getting the garden ready for winter. There’s always more to do — clearing, cutting back, labeling, and tucking everything in for a long rest before spring. But for now, we’re still riding the excitement of that first show and feeling so grateful for everyone who came out to support local growers and celebrate these incredible flowers with us.
