Tuber Update

Whew…. I did it. It took me much longer than I anticipated, but I finally finished dividing down my last tubers. As I looked around to the still very messy garage area I had been working on I realized something incredibly important. I still wasn’t ready.

Dahila tubers on a tableI had high hopes for myself to have my first online sale of tubers this season. I have been working hard on getting everything ready, and keeping up on all my tubers, even though there was still loss of whole varieties, which happens every year to every farmer I am sure, but still sucks. Some of those beautiful hard to come by unicorn varieties don’t produce well, and don’t save well, which continues to be demonstrated to me every year, but maybe I will learn one year!

Additionally, we are greatly behind on our infrastructure and website design. To peek behind our curtain a little bit, we are only a two person operation at best, but usually just a half person operation most of the time. I am usually splitting my time between this and two other jobs as well, which means sometimes our candles are burning too fast, and we have too many irons and not enough fire. It’s a cavalcade of burnt out metaphors (allegories? Something….) over here.

Regardless of storage issues, I still have tons and tons of tubers, and I really want to get them into people’s homes, so here is what we decided to do for this year. We decided to do in person sales at one of our favorite local shops The Wasteless Shop at Ranchahrrah. They will be our exclusive tuber, seedling, and cutting carriers this year while we continue to work on our infrastructure and back end business so by next season we will be rip raring to go! The Wasteless Shop will also be carrying our blooms as soon as our weather stabilizes and our flowers grow and bloom around here. So find us there and help support our little farming operations.

Lastly though we have some fun things coming up that we would love our community to know. We will be holding two fundraisers this year, along with two (or more) giveaways to celebrate one year in business!! Our first fundraiser will be for support of ongoing operations of the Seirra Nevada Dahlia Society. Myself, along with some local dahlia loving friends, growers and designers, have created the Sierra Nevada Dahlia Society and the proceeds from this initial fundraiser will be going directly to the ongoing operations of SNDS, along with bring all the dahlia love to our community. Other fundraisers and giveaways to be announced shortly thereafter culminated in our one year celebration. We cant wait to share everything with all of you and we look forward to services our community and beyond with all of our blooms.
